CAROLYN LEDOWSKY
Naturopath, Herbalist, Nutritionist
Carolyn Ledowsky is the founder of MTHFR Support Australia. She is a naturopath, herbalist and nutritionist. Has a Bachelor of Herbal Medicine, Bachelor of Naturopathy, Advanced Diploma of Naturopathy and Diploma of Nutrition. She has also studied courses in genetics at Duke University (Genetics and Evolution). And The University of Maryland (Genes and the Human condition – from behaviour to biotechnology) in the US.
Carolyn’s debut into the world of MTHFR commenced when she noticed that so many of her patients had high red cell folate levels in their blood work. She embarked on a mission to discover the significance of this and this led her to the MTHFR gene.
Carolyn Ledowsky now sees chronically ill patients who have searched, sometimes for decades, to find the reason behind their ill health. Most of her patients have MTHFR mutations and/or associated methylation disturbances. These disturbances then go on to affect thyroid, adrenals, hormones, detoxification and energy pathways and often neurotransmitters. Her expertise is in understanding these highly complex biochemical pathways.
Carolyn is a Health Scientist and researcher who is passionate about the rising rate of infertility around the word. Her recent Journal publication highlights the potential effects that MTHFR polymorphisms may have on fertility in both men and women. She has just completed her Honours thesis. Where she documented the forms. And doses of folate that practitioners in Australia are prescribing for women with infertility and MTHFR polymorphisms. This is in the process of being published. The results suggest that 5-MTHF is being used over folic acid and at higher doses to achieve a successful pregnancy and live birth. Carolyn plans to continue her research with a clinic trial. She is currently doing her PhD at the University of Technology Sydney to study the effect of different forms of folate on fertility in those with MTHFR polymorphisms.
